YouTube – Portugal paradise for pedophiles

The video sharing service Youtube is one of the most visit sites on the internet. With millions of user submitted videos from all around the globe, it is understandable that many people might use this extremely flexible service to grab a glimpse of locations they are interested on visiting.

Conducting a search for the keyword Portugal unveils what many would expect from this country, soccer clips from various matches especially dating to the Euro 2006. Portugal being a nation that values soccer over any other activities including education, this is not surprising. The real problem comes further down on the list in the form of a video clip cleverly entitled “Forbidden Paradise - Portugal”.

The clip was created by Journeyman Pictures a London based independent distributor of topical news features, documentaries and footage. When watching the video in question it is clear that the footage isn’t recent, dating back to 1999 but that is hardly the main concern. The comments posted in reply to the video are very recent and most bare the same tone of shock and dismay, all of which help further destroy the country’s image. The question we have to ask ourselves is whether Portugal can afford more negative publicity on top of all the scandals that already plague its image?

As to pedophiles the recent event’s linking many prominent talk show hosts and political figures still goes unresolved in hope that one day everyone will forget it ever happen. All I can say is that this alongside other similar blows to Portugal’s reputation should be addressed and sorted out, with the help of the fragile legal system no doubt.
